Budibase describes itself as a platform for modernising processes with AI agents, apps and automations built around existing systems1. Its free Community plan is self-hosted and has no user limit2.

Best for: IT teams that want to self-host internal apps, automations and AI agents on their own infrastructure, including air-gapped networks.

Not the right fit for: Teams without anyone to run a server, or buyers who need audit logs without an Enterprise contract.

What Budibase does

Budibase builds apps, automations and agents for IT teams. Its agents handle requests using the company's data, tools and approval rules, with examples such as a purchasing agent, an incident agent and a knowledge assistant, and it cites human oversight and approval policies for controlled AI actions. Apps connect to databases such as PostgreSQL and to systems such as SAP and ServiceNow through their APIs. It runs in Budibase Cloud or self-hosted in private cloud, on-premises and air-gapped environments1.

On Cloud, usage is measured in actions: AI agent tool calls, automation steps and saves or deletes in its databases. Custom SQL queries and API requests are not counted, and the limits are hard caps without overage charges2.

Published evidence

  • Reworld (vendor-published). Budibase’s homepage states that Reworld projects $3.2m in savings.1

The homepage states the figure without a method; we treat it as a vendor-reported projection.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • The free Community plan has unlimited users, apps and agents, with standard single sign-on.
  • Agents work under approval rules, with human oversight for controlled actions.
  • Runs in private cloud, on-premises or air-gapped environments.
  • Monthly action limits are hard caps, and the pricing page states there are no overage charges.

Limits

  • Audit logs and enterprise identity and access controls are Enterprise features with custom pricing.
  • The Cloud plan includes 2 creators and 20 end users; more cost $50 and $5 a month each on annual billing.
  • Self-hosting puts upgrades, backups and uptime on the company’s own team.

Choose another option if: Nobody will operate the server, or the team wants a hosted tool with audit logs at a published price (Retool or Appsmith).

Pricing

Published: Community free (self-hosted); Cloud from $299 a month with 2 creators, 20 end users and 50,000 AI credits; Enterprise custom.

Questions to ask Budibase

  • Which features we need are missing from the free Community plan?
  • What does Enterprise cost for audit logs and identity controls at our size?
  • How are approval rules for agents configured, and who can change them?
  • What does upgrading a self-hosted instance involve, and how often?
